Our Mission

The mission of the Pride & Allies ERG is to promote a positive environment that supports patients, families and employees that identify as LGBTQ+ and allies by providing educational resources, professional and clinical consultations, and advocacy.

Pride & Allies Employee Resource Group

Stanford Medicine’s Pride & Allies Employee Resource Group (ERG) is a voluntary, employee-led group promoting a positive and inclusive environment for patients, families, and employees identifying as LGBTQ and allies. Through educational resources, professional and clinical consultations, and advocacy, the Pride & Allies ERG builds community and fosters a sense of belonging by providing opportunities to connect, learn, and celebrate moments that matter.

By making a gift to support the Pride & Allies ERG, you can help:

Promote Inclusion: The ERG fosters an inclusive environment where individuals of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities feel valued, supported, and included. In addition to hosting gatherings for LGBTQ+ employees and allies, volunteers help address accessibility issues like ensuring fair access to all-gender restrooms and collecting more precise demographic data, including sexual orientation and gender identity, in a patient’s medical record.

Boost Community Impact: ERG volunteers engage in activities beyond the workplace, such as the San Francisco Pride parade, contributing to the positive representation of LGBTQ+ communities and helping drive social change.

Advance Diversity and Retain Talent: A vibrant Pride & Allies ERG demonstrates that Stanford is committed to creating an inclusive workplace where LGBTQ+ employees can thrive professionally without fear of discrimination or bias. This helps us attract and retain top talent from LGBTQ+ communities and increase diversity in our workforce.

Pride History

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. The Stonewall Uprising was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. In the United States the last Sunday in June was initially celebrated as "Gay Pride Day," but the actual day was flexible. In major cities across the nation the "day" soon grew to encompass a month-long series of events. Today, celebrations include pride parades, picnics, parties, workshops, symposia and concerts, and LGBTQ Pride Month events attract millions of participants around the world. Memorials are held during this month for those members of the community who have been lost to hate crimes or HIV/AIDS. The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.
